How can I reduce oily skin permanently?

Oil production is set largely by genetics and hormones, so it can be reduced and managed rather than switched off for good. At Nest Clinic we use superficial micro-injections of Xeomin to temporarily lower sebum output for around 3–4 months, Potenza RF microneedling to target oil glands and pores, and salicylic peels plus a retinoid routine. Most patients notice less shine within 1–2 weeks; results vary and need maintenance.

Understanding oily skin

Busy glands, not a dirty face

Oily skin comes from sebaceous glands producing more sebum than the skin needs. Genetics, androgens, heat and humidity, stress and some medications all play a part. Over-washing or harsh products can make it worse, because a stripped barrier often responds with even more oil.

Excess sebum is the starting point for blackheads, congestion and acne, and it stretches pores over time — so controlling oil helps several concerns at once.

Signs your skin is oily

  • Shine across the forehead, nose and chin by midday
  • Makeup that slides or separates within hours
  • Frequent blackheads or clogged pores
  • Visible, enlarged pores on the cheeks and nose
  • Breakouts that worsen in heat or humidity
Oily skin can still be dehydrated. We check the barrier as well as oil, because hydration is part of reducing shine.
Our approach

Less shine, healthier balance

We combine treatments that lower oil output with care that keeps the barrier healthy, so the skin does not rebound.

01

Micro-Xeomin

Very fine, superficial injections of diluted Xeomin temporarily reduce sebum and refine pores for around 3–4 months, without affecting expression when done correctly.

02

Potenza RF microneedling

Radiofrequency through fine needles targets oil glands and tightens enlarged pores over 2–3 sessions.

03

Salicylic peels

Oil-soluble BHA peels clear excess sebum from pores and smooth texture with minimal downtime.

04

Q Facial

Our Q Facial deep-cleanses and rebalances oily skin — a comfortable add-on during a short stay.

05

Prescription routine

A light, non-comedogenic routine with retinoid or niacinamide, and medical options for hormonal oiliness when appropriate.

What to expect

A more matte, refined finish

Drag the handle to compare. Shine reduces within a couple of weeks as oil output settles.

Safety first

Possible side effects

Micro-Xeomin can leave small bumps for about an hour and occasionally tiny bruises. Uncommon risks include temporary dryness, a slight change in facial expression if product spreads, and headache. Potenza causes redness for 1–2 days and, rarely, temporary darkening or small grid marks. We use precise superficial technique, conservative settings and clear aftercare to reduce these.

We do not use botulinum toxin during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or in people with certain neuromuscular conditions.

FAQ

Oily Skin questions, answered

Can oily skin be stopped for good?
No treatment permanently stops oil production. Micro-Xeomin and Potenza reduce it for months, and a good routine keeps it balanced. Many people find oiliness also eases naturally with age.
How soon will I see less shine?
Micro-Xeomin usually reduces shine within 1–2 weeks. Potenza results build over 2–3 monthly sessions.
Is micro-Xeomin the same as anti-wrinkle injections?
It uses the same product but much more diluted and placed very superficially, so it targets oil glands and pores rather than the muscles that make expressions.
Can I do this on a short trip?
Yes. Micro-Xeomin and peels have little or no downtime, so they fit easily into a visit. Potenza needs a day or two for redness to settle.
Should I stop moisturising if my skin is oily?
No. A light, non-comedogenic moisturiser supports the barrier and can reduce rebound oiliness. We will recommend textures that suit your skin.
