Do under-eye fillers work for dark circles?

Yes — when the shadow is caused by hollowness(a deep tear trough), a small amount of soft hyaluronic acid filler smooths the groove so light reflects evenly and the eyes look rested. Treatment takes about 15 minutes, results are visible immediately and typically last 9–12 months. Fillers are not the right fix for puffy bags or purely pigmented circles, so a doctor checks the cause first.

What it improves

Brighter, rested eyes

With age, weight change or genetics, the fat and bone support under the eye thins and a groove forms between the lower eyelid and cheek. That groove casts a shadow that looks like dark circles, even after a full night's sleep.

Under-eye filler can soften

  • Hollow tear troughs and shadowing
  • A visible line between lower lid and cheek
  • A tired or sunken look despite enough rest
  • Early volume loss after weight change
Choosing the right fix — not every circle needs filler. Our doctors first identify the cause. Hollowness responds to filler; other causes are treated differently: fat bulging or under-eye bags — filler can make these look worse; fluid retention or puffy eyes — lymphatic and lifting care instead; brown pigmented circles — laser toning, as with melasma; crepey skin and under-eye wrinkles — Skinvive or skin boosters.
Treatment options

Tailored to your anatomy

We use soft, low-swelling hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane, Belotero and Juvéderm — chosen for the thin under-eye skin.

01

Tear trough filler

Fine filler placed deep along the groove with a micro-cannula to soften hollows and shadows.

02

Mid-cheek support

Restores support from below, blending the lid–cheek junction — often combined with cheek fillers or hollow cheek correction.

03

Lifting + filler

When mild sagging deepens the shadow, energy-based lifting such as Ulthera is paired with a smaller filler dose.

04

Calming aftercare

LDM and cooling after injection help reduce swelling — useful for visitors with a tight schedule.

What to expect

Softer shadows, natural contour

Drag the handle to compare. The goal is a smooth lid–cheek transition, not added volume.

Is it right for you?

Good candidates

  • Shadows caused mainly by hollowness
  • Good skin elasticity with little fat bulging
  • Wanting a refreshed look without surgery
  • Visitors who can stay in Seoul 2–3 days after injection
Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active skin infection, or for large fat bags — a lower-blepharoplasty consultation may suit those better.
Safety first

Risks & how we reduce them

Common, temporary effects are mild swelling, tenderness and small bruises for a few days. Less common risks include lumps, a bluish tint (Tyndall effect) if filler is placed too superficially, and rare vascular complications.

We reduce these with blunt micro-cannulas, conservative volumes, deep placement and doctor-only injection. Hyaluronidase is kept on hand so filler can be dissolved if ever needed.

FAQ

Under Eye Fillers questions, answered

How long do under-eye fillers last?
Most patients enjoy results for 9–12 months. Because the under-eye area moves little, some soft fillers last longer. A small top-up is usually all that's needed afterwards.
Does under-eye filler hurt?
We apply numbing cream first and use fillers that contain lidocaine. With a blunt cannula, most patients describe pressure rather than pain.
When can I fly home after treatment?
You can fly the next day, but we recommend staying in Seoul for 2–3 days so swelling can settle and we can check the result before you leave.
Will it look puffy or unnatural?
Puffiness usually comes from too much or too superficial filler. We use small volumes placed deep, aiming for a smooth transition rather than added fullness — and filler can be dissolved if you are unhappy.
Cannula or needle — which is better?
For the tear trough we mainly use a blunt micro-cannula, which lowers bruising and vascular risk. A needle may be used for precise touches in selected cases.
Can fillers fix under-eye bags?
No — filler can make true fat bags look bigger. For bags we discuss lifting, skin-tightening or surgical options instead. See our under-eye bags page.
