What are hand fillers, and how long do they last?

Hand fillers are injectable fillers placed on the back of the hand to replace lost volume, making veins and tendons less prominent and skin look smoother. We use hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane or Juvéderm, or Sculptra for gradual collagen building. Treatment takes about 30 minutes with mild swelling for a few days. Hyaluronic acid results commonly last around 9–12 months, Sculptra often longer, varying between individuals.

Understanding hand ageing

Why hands show age early

The backs of the hands have little fat and thin skin. With age, sun exposure and weight change, that fat layer shrinks, so veins, tendons and knuckles become more visible and skin looks crepey. Hands can look older than the face, especially when the face has been cared for.

Filler restores a thin, even cushion of volume under the skin. Hands often also show age spots, which can be treated with laser for a complete refresh.

Signs hand fillers may suit you

  • Prominent veins or tendons on the back of the hand
  • Thin, crepey or wrinkled hand skin
  • Bony-looking knuckles and hollows between tendons
  • Hands that look older than your face
  • Wanting a subtle refresh with little downtime
Hand fillers reduce the appearance of veins rather than removing them. Healthy veins are not treated or damaged.
Our approach

Rejuvenating the hands

Your doctor selects the product and technique according to skin thickness and the degree of volume loss.

01

Hyaluronic acid filler

Smooth, flexible fillers such as Restylane or Juvéderm add immediate, even volume and can be dissolved if needed.

02

Sculptra for collagen

For a gradual, longer-lasting effect, Sculptra stimulates new collagen over 2–3 sessions.

03

Cannula technique

A blunt cannula spreads filler in a thin, even layer through one or two entry points, reducing bruising.

04

Skin quality boosters

Skin boosters such as Rejuran or Skinvive can improve crepey texture and hydration of hand skin.

05

Pigment care

Laser toning or targeted laser can fade age spots for a more even tone.

What to expect

Smoother, softer hands

Drag the handle to compare. Restored volume softens veins, tendons and crepey lines on the back of the hand.

Is it right for you?

Good candidates

  • Visible veins, tendons or knuckles due to volume loss
  • Thin, crepey hand skin
  • Patients who have had facial rejuvenation and want hands to match
  • Visitors to Seoul wanting a quick treatment with little downtime

Safety first

Possible side effects

Swelling, tenderness and small bruises are common for a few days, and hands may feel slightly stiff when making a fist. Uncommon risks include lumps, uneven contour, infection and, rarely, vascular complications or nerve irritation.

We reduce risk with blunt cannulas, careful depth, conservative volumes and sterile technique. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed.

Avoid heavy gripping, hot baths, saunas and rings that feel tight for 2–3 days while swelling settles.

FAQ

Hand Fillers questions, answered

Do hand fillers hurt?
Most patients feel mild pressure. We use numbing cream, and most fillers contain lidocaine, so discomfort is usually brief.
How long do hand fillers last?
Hyaluronic acid fillers commonly last around 9–12 months on the hands, as they are used constantly. Sculptra results often last longer. Results vary between individuals.
Can I fly home the next day?
Yes. Swelling may increase slightly on a flight, so keep your hands elevated when possible and remove tight rings before travelling.
Will I be able to use my hands normally?
Yes, you can type, write and do daily tasks straight away. Avoid heavy lifting or intense gripping for a couple of days.
Are the veins removed?
No. Filler sits above the veins and softens their appearance. The veins remain healthy and functional.
Can I treat age spots at the same visit?
Often yes. Laser for age spots or sun spots can usually be planned in the same trip, depending on timing and skin reaction.
