Can fillers lift downturned mouth corners?

Yes. Small amounts of soft hyaluronic acid placed just beneath the corners of the mouth support them from below, so the lips look gently lifted instead of turned down. It takes about 15 minutes, with results visible immediately that typically last 6–12 months. Because a strong downward-pulling muscle often contributes, doctors frequently add a small dose of botulinum toxin for a more balanced, natural lift.

Understanding mouth corners

Why the corners turn down

Downturned mouth corners can make you look sad, tired or displeased even when you feel relaxed. They are partly genetic and partly caused by ageing: support beneath the corners thins, the lip loses volume, and the depressor muscle that pulls the corners down becomes relatively dominant.

Mouth corner lifting is a small, precise treatment that often complements lip fillers and marionette fillers when lines extend further towards the chin.

What a mouth corner lift can improve

  • Corners of the mouth that turn down at rest
  • A sad or stern resting expression
  • Small shadows or creases at the lip corners
  • Early marionette lines starting at the corners
  • Asymmetric mouth corners
Fine creases around the mouth may also benefit from skin quality treatments such as Skinvive.
Our approach

Small changes, big expression

We use very soft, flexible fillers such as Belotero or Restylane that stay smooth in a highly mobile area.

01

Corner support

Tiny amounts beneath each corner to tilt the lip line gently upwards.

02

Muscle relaxing

A small dose of Xeomin weakens the muscle that pulls the corners down, enhancing the lift.

03

Lip border refinement

A touch of filler at the outer lip border helps the corners look neat and defined.

04

Marionette blending

If lines continue towards the chin, the groove is softened at the same visit.

05

Conservative dosing

Small volumes keep your smile natural and leave room to adjust at a follow-up.

What to expect

A softer resting expression

Drag the handle to compare. A mouth corner lift aims for a relaxed, pleasant look at rest — not a fixed smile.

Risks & how we reduce them

Common, temporary effects are mild swelling, tenderness and small bruises for a few days. Less common risks include small palpable lumps, asymmetry, and — with botulinum toxin — temporary changes to smiling or speech if the toxin spreads. Vascular complications are rare.

We reduce these with tiny volumes, soft fillers, precise toxin placement away from neighbouring muscles and doctor-only injection. Hyaluronidase is kept on hand so filler can be dissolved if ever needed.

We do not inject during pregnancy or breastfeeding, near active cold sores or infection, or soon after dental work.

FAQ

Mouth Corner Lift Fillers questions, answered

How long does a mouth corner lift last?
Filler typically lasts 6–12 months in this mobile area; botulinum toxin, if used, lasts around 3–4 months.
Will it change my smile?
It should not, when volumes and toxin doses are conservative. The aim is to lift the corners at rest while keeping natural movement.
Does it hurt?
Most patients feel only brief stinging and pressure, as we use numbing cream and lidocaine-containing filler.
When can I fly home?
Flying the next day is generally fine. Toxin takes about 1–2 weeks for its full effect, so we explain what to expect after you return home.
Is it the same as lip filler?
No. Lip filler adds volume or definition to the lips; a mouth corner lift focuses on the angle of the corners. They are often combined.
