Are fillers or Botox better for crow's feet?

For most people, botulinum toxin is the first-line treatment for crow's feet, because the lines are caused by the orbicularis oculi muscle squinting and smiling. Results appear in 3–7 days and last around 3–4 months. Fine, soft hyaluronic acid filler or skin boosters are added when lines remain etched at rest or the skin is thin and crepey. Many patients benefit from both. Results vary between individuals.

Understanding crow's feet

Lines that come with smiling

Crow's feet are the fan of lines at the outer corners of the eyes. They form as the circular muscle around the eye contracts when we smile or squint, while the skin here is thin and loses collagen and hydration with age and sun exposure.

Early crow's feet appear only with expression; over time they can remain at rest. They often sit alongside under-eye wrinkles and general fine lines, so we plan the whole eye area together.

Signs you may benefit

  • Lines at the outer eye when smiling
  • Creases that remain visible at rest
  • Crepey, thin skin beside the eyes
  • Make-up settling into lines
  • Lines deepened by squinting or sun exposure
Our approach

Relax, smooth and strengthen

The eye area is delicate, so we use the lightest effective combination and conservative amounts.

01

Xeomin botulinum toxin

Relaxes the squinting muscle to soften dynamic lines while keeping a natural, warm smile.

02

Fine soft filler

A very soft hyaluronic acid filler such as Belotero, placed superficially in tiny amounts, smooths etched lines at rest.

03

Skinvive

Micro-droplet hyaluronic acid improves hydration and smoothness of crepey skin — see our Skinvive page.

04

Rejuran

Polynucleotide injections support repair and elasticity of thin skin around the eyes.

05

Thermage FLX eyes

Radiofrequency designed for the eye area gently tightens the skin over several months.

What to expect

Softer lines, natural smile

Drag the handle to compare. Lines soften within days as the muscle relaxes, and skin quality continues to improve with boosters.

Safety first

Possible side effects

Small injection marks, mild swelling and bruising are common because the skin here is thin and well supplied with small vessels. Uncommon effects include a temporary change to your smile, asymmetry, small visible lumps or a bluish tint if filler sits too superficially. We use fine needles, tiny volumes, soft fillers suited to thin skin and careful injection depth, and keep hyaluronidase available to dissolve hyaluronic acid filler.

We do not inject during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active infection, or for people with certain neuromuscular conditions.

FAQ

Crow's Feet Fillers questions, answered

Do I need filler, or is Botox enough?
Most crow's feet respond well to botulinum toxin alone. Filler or skin boosters are added only when lines are still visible at rest or the skin is thin.
Will it change my smile?
With conservative dosing your smile stays natural. We avoid over-relaxing the area so your eyes still crinkle softly when you laugh.
Is there bruising around the eyes?
Small bruises can occur and usually fade within a week; they are easy to cover with concealer. Avoiding blood-thinning supplements beforehand helps.
Can I fly home the next day?
Yes. Flying is generally fine after toxin or skin boosters. After filler we prefer 24–48 hours so we can check you before departure.
How long do results last?
Toxin usually lasts around 3–4 months, soft filler around 6–9 months, and skin boosters around 6 months. Results vary between patients.
Can I treat other areas too?
Many patients combine crow's feet with forehead lines and frown lines in a single visit.
