How do you get rid of horizontal neck lines?

Horizontal neck lines, sometimes called tech neck, are treated by improving skin quality and filling etched creases. Common options include skin boosters such as Skinvive or Rejuran, very soft hyaluronic acid filler placed in fine threads along the line, and tightening devices such as Ulthera or Thermage FLX. Most patients need 2–3 booster sessions 3–4 weeks apart. Lines soften rather than disappear, and results vary.

Understanding neck lines

Why the neck shows lines early

Neck skin is thinner than facial skin, with fewer oil glands, and is often neglected in sun protection and skincare. Horizontal lines form where the skin folds repeatedly — looking down at phones and screens, sleeping position and natural creases that some people are born with — and deepen as collagen declines.

Vertical bands and a looser jawline are a different problem, related to sagging skin and the platysma muscle. Volume-based correction of deep creases is covered on our neck fillers page.

Signs you may benefit

  • Horizontal rings across the front of the neck
  • Lines that remain visible when you lift your chin
  • Crepey or dry texture on the neck
  • Lines that look older than your face
  • Make-up or powder settling into neck creases
Our approach

Smoothing the neck in layers

We combine hydration, fine filling and tightening according to line depth and skin laxity.

01

Skinvive & boosters

Micro-droplet hyaluronic acid improves hydration and smoothness across the whole neck — see Skinvive.

02

Rejuran

Polynucleotide injections support repair and elasticity of thin, crepey neck skin.

03

Fine soft filler

A very soft filler such as Belotero placed in small threads along etched lines, keeping the neck flexible.

04

Ulthera & Thermage FLX

Ultrasound and radiofrequency tighten neck skin and the lower jawline over 2–3 months.

05

Xeomin for neck bands

Small doses of botulinum toxin can soften prominent vertical platysmal bands when present.

06

Potenza

Radiofrequency microneedling improves texture and crepiness with short recovery.

What to expect

Smoother, firmer neck skin

Drag the handle to compare. Neck lines soften gradually as hydration, fine filling and collagen work together over several weeks.

Safety first

Possible side effects

Small injection bumps, redness and bruising are common and usually settle within a few days. Uncommon risks include visible lumps or irregularity if filler is placed too superficially, infection and, rarely, vascular complications. Toxin for neck bands can, uncommonly, cause temporary neck weakness or difficulty swallowing if over-dosed, so we use small, conservative doses. Soft products, fine needles and careful depth reduce these risks.

We do not inject during pregnancy or breastfeeding or over active infection. Please tell your doctor about thyroid conditions or previous neck surgery.

FAQ

Neck Lines questions, answered

Can neck lines be removed completely?
Neck lines can be noticeably softened, but they are not permanently erased because the neck keeps moving and ageing. Maintenance sessions and daily sun protection help keep results.
How many sessions will I need?
Skin boosters usually need 2–3 sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart. Fine filler often needs one session with an optional touch-up.
I only have a few days in Seoul. Is one session worth it?
Yes. One session of boosters or fine filler can make a visible difference. Your doctor can give you a written plan to continue at home.
Is there downtime?
Small bumps can be visible for 1–2 days and bruising for a few days. A scarf or high collar easily covers the area while you travel.
What can I do at home?
Apply sunscreen and moisturiser to your neck daily, raise screens to eye level, and use retinoid products as advised by your doctor.
