Do hip dip fillers work, and how long do they last?

Hip dip fillers can visibly smooth the indentation below the hip bone by injecting a body-grade filler into the hollow, giving a softer, more continuous curve from waist to thigh. The procedure takes about 30–60 minutes under local anaesthetic, with mild soreness for several days. Results are visible immediately and commonly last around 1–2 years, depending on the product, volume and metabolism. Results vary, and top-ups are usually needed to maintain them.

Understanding hip dips

A natural feature of the pelvis

Hip dips, or violin hips, are inward curves just below the hip bone where the skin is more firmly attached to the deeper structures of the upper thigh. Their depth depends on pelvic shape, muscle and fat distribution, and they are completely normal and not a health problem.

Filler can soften the hollow for patients who would like a smoother line. It suits patients who also maintain healthy weight and muscle tone, and is often planned together with buttock fillers or collagen stimulation with Body Sculptra for a balanced silhouette.

Signs hip dip fillers may suit you

  • A visible hollow below the hip bone in fitted clothing
  • Indentation that persists despite exercise
  • You want a smoother side profile without surgery
  • Stable weight and good general health
  • Realistic goals: softening, not reshaping the skeleton
Hip dips are shaped by bone structure, so filler softens them rather than removing them entirely. Our doctors will show you what is realistic for your body.
Our approach

How we plan hip dip fillers

Every plan is tailored to your pelvic shape, the depth of the hollow and the look you prefer.

01

Standing assessment

We mark the hollow standing and in motion, because hip dips change with posture and muscle activity.

02

Body-grade filler

We use filler designed for body volume, placed deep in measured amounts through fine cannulas to limit bruising.

03

Layered, conservative volume

Filler is built up gradually and symmetrically; a top-up after 2–4 weeks can refine the shape safely.

04

Collagen stimulation option

For a gradual, natural-feeling result, poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra) may be used instead of or alongside filler.

05

Whole-silhouette planning

Hips, buttocks and waistline are considered together so the result looks proportionate from every angle.

What to expect

A smoother side curve

Drag the handle to compare. Filler softens the hollow so the hip line flows more continuously into the thigh.

Is it right for you?

Good candidates

  • Visible hip dips that bother you in clothing or swimwear
  • Healthy adults at a stable weight
  • Patients preferring a non-surgical option over fat grafting
  • Visitors who can stay in Seoul 3–5 days for an early check
We may advise against treatment if you have active skin infection in the area, bleeding disorders, autoimmune conditions or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Safety first

Possible side effects

Swelling, bruising, tenderness and a feeling of firmness are common for several days. Uncommon risks include lumps or nodules, asymmetry, filler migration, infection and, rarely, vascular complications.

We reduce risk with sterile technique, blunt cannulas, deep placement, modest volumes per session and a follow-up check. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed.

Avoid saunas, tight shapewear, deep massage and intense exercise for about two weeks. Seek care promptly if you notice increasing pain, redness or fever.

FAQ

Hip Dip Fillers questions, answered

Does hip dip filler hurt?
Local anaesthetic is used at the entry points, and blunt cannulas reduce discomfort. Most patients feel pressure during treatment and soreness, similar to a deep bruise, for several days.
Can I fly home after hip dip fillers?
Yes, but we suggest staying 3–5 days so we can check symmetry and settling. On long flights, walk regularly, stay hydrated and avoid pressing hard on the area.
How long do hip dip fillers last?
Many patients enjoy results for around 1–2 years. Longevity depends on the product, volume, activity level and metabolism, so it varies between individuals.
Can hip dips be completely removed?
Not always. Hip dips are partly due to pelvic bone shape, so filler softens and smooths them rather than erasing them. We aim for a natural curve.
Is fat grafting a better option?
Fat grafting can last longer but involves liposuction, longer recovery and variable fat survival. Fillers or Body Sculptra suit patients who want a non-surgical approach.
Can I sit and exercise normally afterwards?
You can sit and walk the same day. Avoid lying on your side heavily, intense workouts and massage for about two weeks while the filler settles.
