How can I restore lost volume in my face?

Facial volume loss is usually restored with hyaluronic acid filler, Sculptra collagen stimulation, or both. Filler adds immediate, adjustable support at key points such as the temples, cheeks and jawline, typically lasting 12–18 months. Sculptra rebuilds collagen gradually over 2–3 sessions, with results often lasting around two years. At Nest Clinic we treat the whole face in balance. Results vary between individuals.

Understanding volume loss

A face that changes shape

From our thirties, the face gradually loses volume in several layers at once: fat pads shrink and descend, bone at the eye socket, cheek and jaw slowly resorbs, and collagen declines. The face shifts from a soft 'heart' shape towards a squarer, heavier lower face.

Volume loss often shows as hollow cheeks, sunken temples, deeper nasolabial folds and a softer jawline. Weight loss, endurance training and genetics can bring it on earlier.

Signs of facial volume loss

  • Temples look sunken or the brow tail looks heavier
  • Cheeks look flat or shadowed
  • Smile and marionette lines are deeper
  • The jawline looks less defined
  • You look tired or thinner in photos than you feel
Volume loss and sagging skin usually occur together; we often combine restoration with lifting for a natural result.
Our approach

Restoring structure, layer by layer

Your plan is built from these options according to where volume has been lost and how gradual you want the change.

01

Structural filler

Firmer hyaluronic acid fillers placed deep at the cheekbone, temple, jawline or chin to rebuild support. See cheek fillers and chin fillers.

02

Soft-tissue filler

Softer Juvéderm, Restylane or Belotero products smooth transitions so the face looks seamless, not segmented.

03

Sculptra

Poly-L-lactic acid builds collagen over months for diffuse, natural-looking restoration — well suited to the temples and wider areas.

04

Lifting support

Ulthera, Thermage FLX or Oligio tighten skin so that less volume is needed to achieve a refreshed look.

05

Skin boosters

Rejuran, Skinvive or exosome care improve thin, dry or crepey skin over restored areas.

Safety first

Possible side effects

Swelling, tenderness and bruising are common for a few days. Uncommon risks include lumps, asymmetry, infection, delayed inflammatory reactions and, with Sculptra, nodules if product is placed too superficially or aftercare is skipped.

Vascular occlusion is a rare but serious risk of any filler, particularly at the temples. We reduce risk through deep, slow injection, cannula use where appropriate, staged treatment and hyaluronidase kept on hand.

We postpone treatment during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active infection, or with uncontrolled autoimmune disease. Please tell us about previous permanent fillers or implants.

FAQ

Loss of Facial Volume questions, answered

Will I look overfilled?
We plan treatment for the whole face and add volume in small amounts over one or more visits, so the result stays in proportion. Restoring structure usually needs less product than filling individual lines.
How much filler will I need?
It depends on how much volume has been lost and how many areas are treated. Your doctor will explain a staged plan during consultation rather than a fixed number of syringes.
Filler or Sculptra?
Filler gives immediate, reversible support and suits a short stay. Sculptra builds collagen gradually over 2–3 sessions about 4–6 weeks apart and suits patients who prefer subtle change. See our Sculptra page.
How soon can I fly?
Most patients fly the next day. Avoid alcohol, saunas and strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours to limit swelling.
How long do results last?
Hyaluronic acid filler typically lasts 12–18 months, Sculptra often around two years. Natural ageing continues, so occasional maintenance keeps results balanced.
Does treatment hurt?
Numbing cream and lidocaine-containing products keep most treatments comfortable; you will feel mild pressure or stinging.
